How to choose the
Best Time Tracking Software

Question: How can you find the best time tracking software, instead of getting a pile of junk or getting ripped off? You know what I mean... without some due diligence in making your choice, you're likely to choose an overly expensive product that doesn't fit your business model, or get a product that isn't scalable to your needs. Every company has different needs, so it's important to choose wisely to get the best product. Ask these questions!

Q: Do you have to pay extra for any of the modules?
A: The answer should be NO. Everything should come in one price. If you have to pay extra, for everything you use or might use, flee! That's a sure sign that you'll end up paying through the nose for the simplest features. Once they know you'll pay... they will charge you for everything. This is NOT the best solution for anyone.

Q: Is it just a timesheet, or do you get more?
A: Ask for project tasks, expense tracking, client billing, PTO tracking. So what if you don't need them today. You will eventually, and if they don't cost anything more, why not get them. Just don't pay extra for the things you don't use.

Q: Is the Sales and Development team U.S. or European based?
A: Most won't answer truthfully. Sadly, it's often India or Russia. We are U.S. based. That's great for U.S. and Canadian companies, and not bad for European companies. There's still a huge overlap in time for England, Germany, France, and the rest of Europe. But the point is, we live to supply the best solution on the market!

Q: Can you track time to multiple projects?
A: Also ask about multiple clients and billing rates and multiple currencies. They answer must be YES. If not, flee. It means the timesheet is not fully robust for consulting use.

Q: Can you track time to project tasks?
A: What? Many time tracking apps don't have project tasks at all. They are your way of breaking projects down to smaller parts. Without them (or if you must pay extra) the granularity may not be enough to study completely projects or effectively show where your time was spent.

Q: Is there project management built in?
A: Again, many timesheets don't have any advanced features. You may not use project management much, or you may... That's for you to decide. But if the timesheet product doesn't include it, you don't have the opportunity to even try it.

Q: Is there both Windows and Web apps?
A: Most only develop web-based time tracking solutions. We give both. Without a Windows app, you're stuck with web only. Web apps are never as fast and responsive as Windows apps. So again, if you don't have to pay extra for both platforms, why not get them!
